I am Associate Professor of Economics at John Jay College, City University of New York. I am also a Fellow at the Roosevelt Institute. I have a PhD in Economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

John Jay now offers an MA in economics; more information here.

I blog at The Slack Wire. (RSS feed.) You can sign up for my free email newsletter at Substack.

My research and teaching is primarily in macroeconomics. I also write about finance, economic history, the history of economic thought, and international finance and trade. I am currently working with Arjun Jayadev on a book, provisionally titled Money and Things, on the relationship between the world of money payments and balance sheets and the concrete social and material reality outside of it.
